Made from sustainable Scottish hardwoods
Rosstic Woodcraft's food chopping and serving boards are made from sustainably sourced Scottish hardwoods and treated with food safe wax oil.
No two boards are the same.... each is a unique product.
Slicing lemons, chopping garlic, cutting vegetables or meat, serving cheese, fruit, canapés, charcuterie or bread....our boards add style.
Hand-crafted and deliberately rustic, they are not "machine perfect" and frequently feature imperfections in the wood and its grain....part of their provenance.
The beauty is that you can enjoy a truly natural hand-made product.
Our boards are all hand-cut and finished from kiln dried timber supplied by Scottish Wood, the trading arm of the charity Dynamic Woods which promotes the sustainable development of woodland resources. We work with a variety of hardwoods but mainly ash, beech, elm, oak and sycamore and
occasionally sweet chestnut and cherry. We endeavour to select interesting grains.
Most of our boards feature live (waney) edges reflecting the natural contours of the wood.
Prices range from £5 to £100.
Imperfectly Formed
If you're looking for a highly machined, perfect but characterless board... you're on the wrong website. As stated above, our boards are deliberately rustic. Unlike those you might find in a specialist utensil shop or the kitchen section of a major department store, our boards are full of character featuring cracks, knots, blemishes and unusual grains... from the dark mysterious patterns of elm, the silky sheen of sycamore to pale but interesting ash.
Be assured, the working surface has been diligently planed, sanded and scraped to a smooth finish with the whole board still retaining that "Rosstic" look... imperfectly formed.
After finishing, our boards are hot-branded with the Rosstic Woodcraft logo on the non-working side.
Caring For Your Board
After use, boards should be lightly wiped/sponged with warm water and dried. Never leave your board lying wet and never wash in a dishwasher.
It is advisable to treat your board regularly with a wax oil or similar to protect it and enhance its appearance, particularly if you're frequently chopping or cutting. We use Brandon Bespoke Wax Oil Treatment but other brands are available.
The Woodland Trust
We are members of the Woodland Trust. Through planting and management, the Trust works in Scotland to halt the loss of native woods and trees and restore existing woodland to peak condition.
Scottish Wood
We purchase our raw materials from Scottish Wood as their business philosophy is exactly in line with our ethos. A social enterprise sawmill supplying quality Scottish hardwoods from local, sustainable sources, it is part of Scottish charity Dynamic Woods. The charity was formed to promote the revitalisation of local woodland culture with all the social, environmental and economic benefits that accrue from that activity.
Our boards are ideal for kitchen, dining, serving or display...either for own use or as a perfect gift.

You can also meet us in person at Farmers Markets in Fife and Edinburgh.
We craft other items from Scottish hardwoods eg coffee tables, shelving units etc, mainly on a bespoke basis. If you have something in mind, please get in touch.
